Mapping Rules
Mapping Rules is a tool that allows you to transform records from Planning, Accounting - Reporting Balances, Other Sources into Planning.
To convert records from one dimension to another, you must create a corresponding mapping rule. You must specify the source of the records, where the information will be mapped to, and the precise details that you want to transfer across.
Planning supports two levels of operating modes:
- One-Level to One-Level
- Two-Levels to One-Level
One-Level to One-Level
You can select the same dimension name from the two drop-down lists for source and child data in the One-Level to One-Level postings. For example, as an administrator, select the Source Head Tag Dimension as Budget Application and its Source Child Tag Dimension as Budget App Amount. Select the Resulted Head Tag Dimension as Entry and its Resulted Child Tag Dimension as Entry Amount to use the posting rule to create a set of transactions that can be used as a data source for reports.
Two-Levels to One-Level
In the Two-Levels to One-Level postings, you can select the child dimension twice for the result. For example, the Reporting Balance dimension acts as the source and the Entry dimension and its child “Entry Amount” serve as the result. Specifying the source dimension both as a parent dimension and as a child dimension is necessary because part of the data must be placed in the parent record of the resulting document and some of the data needs to be in the child records.
