Plan Builder

Using the Plan Builder, you can easily create a new blank plan or one based on Analytics data.

The Plan Builder enables you to:

  • View all available dimensions and choose which ones to include in your plan.
  • Drag and drop dimensions and measures into designated areas to indicate how they will be displayed in rows or columns.
  • Preview the table structure and check if the structure of the data is correct or not.

The Plan Builder is divided into Dimensions and Measures tabs. Both tabs display the list of dimensions and measures in alphabetical order of available items. You can drag and drop the items in the corresponding zones on the right side of the window.

Note: The Plan Builder previews a table with up to eight rows.

Horizontal and Vertical Dimensions

You can use the Vertical Dimensions dropbox to select which dimensions should be displayed as rows in your plan.

  1. Drag and drop the desired dimension from the left selector panel to the drop zone.
  2. The drop zone will be highlighted in color to indicate where the dimension should be placed.
  3. Once a dimension is dropped into the dropbox, it will be removed from the list of available options.
  4. To remove, hover over the dimension and click the "x" to remove it from your selection.
  5. To add it back, you can find it again in the list on the left.
Notes:
  • You cannot drag a dimension into the measure or vice versa. The dragged item will automatically return to the list.
  • A maximum of twelve dimensions can be dragged and dropped into the drop zone.

Dimensions

The Dimensions tab displays the list of dimensions depending on how the plan is being created.

When a Plan is created from Blank:

  • All the dimensions created in planning are listed.
  • All the dimensions can be dragged and dropped only in the drop Dimension box on the right side.
  • Once a 1 dimension is dropped into the dimension box, it will be removed from the list.
  • Once a 1 dimension is unselected from the dropped dimension box, it will be included in the list in the left selector.
  • You can use the filter box to filter the list considering the characters typed.

When a Plan is created from a Data Source:

  • Only the dimensions mapped with the data source are listed.
  • Only the dimensions mapped with the data source can be dragged and dropped in the Dimension box on the right side.
  • Once a 1 dimension is dragged to the drop dimensions box, it will be removed from the list.
  • Once a 1 dimension is unselected from the drop dimension box, it will be included in the list.
  • You can use the filter box to filter the list considering the characters typed.

Horizontal Measure Dropbox

Using the Horizontal Measure dropbox, you can indicate the columns of the structure for the plan.

  1. Drag and drop measures from the left selector panel onto the Horizontal Measure dropbox.
  2. The drop zone will be highlighted in color to indicate where the measures should be placed.
  3. Once a measure is dropped into the dropbox, it will be removed from the list of available options.
  4. To remove, hover over the measure and click the "x" to remove it from your selection.
  5. To add it back, you can find it again in the list on the left.
Notes:
  • You cannot drop a measure into the dimension or vice-versa dropbox. and the measure will come back to the list.
  • A maximum of six measures can be dragged and dropped into the drop zone.

Measures

The Measures tab displays the position of the measures to be included in the Plans tab structure. Using the Columns or Rows checkbox, you can display the position of the measure in the plan table, By default, the Column as a measure position is selected.

When a Plan is created from Blank:

  • All the measures can be dragged and dropped only in the drop measures box on the right side.
  • Once a 1 measure is dropped into the drop measures box, it will be removed from the list.
  • Once a 1 measure is unselected from the drop measures box, it will be included in the list.

When a Plan is created from the Data Source:

  • Only the measures mapped with the data source are listed.
  • Only the measures mapped with the data source can be dragged and dropped in the measures box on the right side.
  • Once 1 measure is dropped into the drop measure box, it will be removed from the list.
  • Once 1 measure is unselected from the drop measure box, it will be included in the list.
  • You can use the filter box included at the top to filter the list considering the characters typed.

Previewing the Table

To preview a table, ensure that you have selected at least one row, one column, and one measure to have the table display. These menus are located in the Plan Builder wizard, which allows you to create customized plans for your data. Once you have selected the necessary dimensions and measures, the preview feature will display the last eight rows or columns of the table. This allows you to get a quick glimpse of the plan structure.

As you add or remove dimensions or measures by dragging and dropping them in the drop boxes menu, the preview feature will update automatically. This means that the preview will always reflect the most up-to-date structure of your data.

For example, if you add a new dimension, the preview will adjust to display the additional information. Similarly, if you remove a measure, the preview will update to reflect this change. The columns and the rows will fan out dummy values only in the last three levels.
