Recording Full Tax Details

If your organization is configured to use AvaTax for tax calculation and you have chosen to record full tax details (by selecting the Record Full Tax Details checkbox when configuring the External Tax Calculation Settings) the jurisdiction level tax details returned by AvaTax for companies with SUT or Combined record types will be stored in the following tables:

  • Tax Detail Sales Invoice for sales invoice line items
  • Tax Detail Sales Credit Note for sales credit note line items
  • Tax Detail Payable Invoice for payable invoice product line items
  • Tax Detail Payable Invoice Expense for payable invoice expense line items
  • Tax Detail Payable Credit Note for payable credit note product line items
  • Tax Detail Payable Credit Note Expense for payable credit note expense line items
Note:

For companies with VAT or GST record types, AvaTax always returns one row of tax information regardless of the Record Full Tax Details setting.

To report on the tax details you must create a report type that links the document, line and tax detail objects:

  • For sales invoices you must create a report type that links the Sales Invoice object, Sales Invoice Line Item object, and Tax Detail Sales Invoice object.
  • For sales credit notes you must create a report type that links the Sales Credit Note object, Sales Credit Note Line Item object, and Tax Detail Sales Credit Note object.
  • For payable invoices you must create one report type that links the Payable Invoice object, Payable Invoice Line Item object, and Tax Detail Payable Invoice object to report on product line tax details. Then another report type that links the Payable Invoice object, Payable Invoice Expense Line Item, and the Tax Detail Payable Invoice Expense object to report on expense line tax details. When creating a Salesforce report you can combine the two report types together in a joined report. Refer to the Salesforce documentation for more information about how to do this.
  • For payable credit notes you must create one report type that links the Payable Credit Note object, Payable Credit Note Line Item object, and Tax Detail Payable Credit Note object to report on product line tax details. Then another report type that links the Payable Credit Note object, Payable Credit Note Expense Line Item, and the Tax Detail Payable Credit Note Expense object to report on expense line tax details. When creating a Salesforce report you can combine the two report types together in a joined report. Refer to the Salesforce documentation for more information about how to do this.

If you print invoices and credit notes using Print Formatter, you can include the tax details in your print formats for these documents.
