Upgrading to the Foundations Tax Connector

Tip:

All customers who are new to Accounting in Spring 2024 use the Foundations processes by default. For more information about the Foundations processes, see Tax Calculation using Avalara AvaTax.

If you’re upgrading to Accounting Spring 2024, you can enable the Foundations tax connector using the Feature Console. The Feature Console simplifies the setup tasks for some Certinia features.

For more information about using the Feature Console, see Feature Console.

Credentials

If you already have an Avalara account number and license key stored in Accounting External Tax Calculation Settings, these are copied to Foundations Tax Calculation Settings when enabling the feature. If an account number and license key are already stored in Foundations Tax Calculation Settings, the feature does not update the settings automatically. We recommend that you check that these settings are up to date.

If you have not provided Avalara credentials in Accounting, enter the account number and license key in Foundations Tax Calculation Settings manually.

Enabling External Tax Calculation Processes

When you're ready to enable external tax calculations, you can specify this through the feature.

Note:

Enabling external tax calculation is optional in the feature, however, it is required to enable the overall process. If you do not enable external tax calculation using the Feature Console, you must enable the option manually before you intend to use this process. You can enable external tax calculation manually from the Foundations Tax Calculation Settings page.

To configure Accounting to use the Foundations tax connector features, follow the Foundations Tax Connector feature steps on the Feature Console tab.

Tip:

You can use this feature to specify whether you want to set up processes for the Avalara AvaTax production environment or their sandbox test environment. Accounting provides remote sites for both production and sandbox environments to ensure you can access their services.
