Custom Fields on Timecards Best Practices
You may have created custom fields on PSA objects that you want to be editable when users log time against their projects, assignments or tasks.
Consider the following best practices when implementing custom fields on a Timecard Entry page:
- You can either add your custom fields to the Daily Easy Entry Fields field sets, or add additional fields to the timecard line. The method you choose depends on the type of custom field you want to add and the needs of your users.
- If you want to record different daily values for the custom field (for example, Overtime Worked), you should: create multiple custom fields, one for every day of the timecard week, on the timecard object; and add them to the corresponding Daily Easy Entry Fields field sets. If easy entry mode is enabled (see Configuring the Easy Entry Popup Mode) your users will be able to enter information using the easy entry popup window when entering daily hours.
- If you want to record a single value for the custom field every week (for example, a Client Implementation Complete checkbox), you should: add the custom field to the Fri Easy Entry Fields field set to prevent users from overwriting the value of the field when entering daily hours; or consider adding the custom field as an additional field on the timecard line.
