Importing and Exporting Plans

Extended Planning and Analysis enables you to export, import, and reimport plans in Microsoft Excel Spreadsheet (XLSX) format. This section provides information about export and import scenarios.

You can export a plan as an XLSX file to enable others in your organization to make changes and import the plan back into Extended Planning and Analysis. To export and edit a plan as an XLSX file and reimport it to Extended Planning and Analysis, the plan structure in Excel must remain the same as in Extended Planning and Analysis. Refer to the following criteria when creating your data import spreadsheet:

  • You can add, modify, or delete columns or rows and numeric values.
  • Cell values must be numeric.
  • If you apply formatting to cells, you must use one of the following custom formats: "UnitCode" #.##0.00 or #.##0.00 "UnitCode". Replace UnitCode with the value of the Code field for a Planning unit record defined in your org. For more information, see Planning Units.
  • Ensure all information you want to import is contained in one sheet of the XLSX file.
  • Dimensions and measures must remain the same. You cannot add, modify, or delete them.
  • All dimension value name combinations and column names must be unique.

Exporting Plans

Extended Planning and Analysis enables you to export a complete plan or a specific section as an XLSX file. You can export a specific section if you want to filter your results to show only a particular dimension or measure.

Notes:
  • Only plan owners and users with permission can edit an exported plan.
  • Read-only users do not have permission to export plans.
  • By default, an exported plan's file name matches the plan name.
  • Only the plan scenarioClosed Represents an independent scenario, version, or snapshot of a plan. that you are viewing is exported to the XLSX file.
  • All plan data is contained in one sheet of the XLSX file.
  • If the plan is configured to display in tree view, it is transformed to a grid in the exported XLSX file. The subtotal rows are retained, however, the row dimension value cells are merged horizontally. This makes it clear that they apply to multiple lower-level dimension values.
  • All cells that contain a formula are exported as numeric values.
  • If a Planning unit is applied to a cell, the following formatting is applied to the cell in the XLSX file: "UnitCode" #.##0.00, for example, USD 1000.00.
  • Cell comments are not exported to the XLSX file.

To export a plan as an XLSX file:

  1. From the Plans tab, navigate to a specific plan.
  2. From the Plan quick actions, do one of the following:
    1. To export a complete plan, click Export as XLSX.
    2. To export a section of a plan, navigate to a specific section of the plan and click Export as XLSX.

Importing Plans

Note:

If the plan is configured to display in tree view, the following applies:

  • If the XLSX file contains subtotal rows that represent tree groups, they are not imported. These are identified by horizontally merged cells that contain row dimension values.
  • When the file is imported, new subtotal rows are created if required. For example, if the XLSX file contains a row with dimension values that do not belong to an existing group.
  • When the file is imported using the "Non-Cumulative" process, existing subtotal rows are overwritten with original SUM formulas. To retain edited subtotal formulas or values, you must use the "Cumulative" process.
Note:

If the XLSX file contains comments, they are not imported to Extended Planning and Analysis.

To import a plan from an XLXS file:

  1. From the Plans tab, navigate to a specific plan.
  2. If the plan contains multiple scenarios, switch to the plan scenario that you want to import the XLSX file to. For more information, see Switching Between Plan Scenarios.
  3. From the Plan quick actions, click Import from XLSX.
