Customizing Tax Breakdown Mappings for OIM Line Objects

When you calculate tax using Avalara for an Order and Inventory Management document, up to three Tax Rate, Tax Value, and Tax Name fields are populated on the document's line by default, each one representing a different jurisdiction. In some cases, more than three jurisdictions are used for tax calculation. When that happens, the total tax rate and value are correct but the details of the additional jurisdictions are not stored in Order and Inventory Management. If you want to store all the jurisdiction information, you can use custom mappings to achieve that. You can create custom fields for up to five additional jurisdictions and store a total of eight jurisdictions.

Warning:

Using custom mappings might negatively impact performance and you might not be able to calculate tax for a document that contains a very high number of lines. If you regularly create documents with more than X number of lines, we recommend that you do not use this feature.

To define custom mappings:

  1. Create custom fields on the line object for each jurisdiction that you want to store. For example, to store a fourth jurisdiction on invoice lines, create the following fields on the Invoice Line Item object:
    • A currency field called Tax Value 4
    • A percent field called Tax Rate 4
    • A text field called Tax Name 4
  2. Repeat the previous step for each jurisdiction and each object that you want to store additional jurisdictions for. For more information about creating custom fields, see the Salesforce Help.
  3. Open the Foundations & Integrations Task Launcher tab.
  4. Click Tax Calculation Settings.
  5. In the Order and Inventory Management Settings section, click Manage Tax Breakdown Mappings. The OIM Avalara Tax Breakdown Mappings page displays.
  6. Scroll down to the relevant section, for example, to Invoice Line Tax Breakdown Mappings.
  7. Add new mappings for each field that you created. For example, for the fourth jurisdiction's tax rate, select "Tax Rate 4" as the source field and the percent field that you created with the same name as the target field. For more information about how to define custom mappings using the FDN Mappings component, see Adding Custom Mappings from the FDN Mappings Component.
  8. Repeat the previous step for each object that you want to add custom mappings for.
  9. Navigate back to the Tax Calculation Settings page.
  10. In the Order and Inventory Management Settings section, select Use Custom Tax Breakdown Mappings.
  11. Click Save.
