Using Planning Units In Calculations

When performing calculations within a plan cell, all values used in those calculations must either share the same Planning unit type or have no assigned Planning unit type. Calculations results vary based on the Planning unit type used.

The following describes common calculations results:

  • If the calculation contains one Planning unit type, the result is in that Planning unit type.
  • A calculation result appears in a cell's assigned base type when:

    • A calculation contains two different Planning unit types and is linked to a rate table.
    • A calculation contains multiplication or division between two plan cells and one of them does not have an assigned Planning unit
    • A calculation contains multiplication between two cells that have different Planning unit types.
  • A calculation results in an error when:

    • A plan cell contains two different Planning unit types and is not linked to a rate table.
    • You perform a calculation that contains addition or subtraction between two plan cells and one of them does not have an assigned Planning unit.
Notes:
  • If you standardize Planning units in your plan, the Planning unit used in your calculations is the cell's original Planning unit.
  • Modifying or deleting a rate table or a rate table value might modify or delete existing calculations in a plan cell and thus result in an error during formula recalculation.
