Creating a Data Source

Before creating a data source, ensure that:

  • You are assigned the CRM Analytics Platform User permission set.
  • You have access to at least one Analytics dataset.

To create a data source:

  1. On the Data Sources tab, click New. The New Data Source window appears.
  2. Enter a name for the data source.
  3. Search for and select an Analytics dataset.
  4. [Optional] Enter a description for the data source.
  5. If you intend to export the plan back to the selected Analytics dataset, select the Output Data Source checkbox. If you want to use the Analytics dataset only as a source of data, leave the checkbox deselected.
  6. Click Next.
  7. Map the relevant WorkGrid dimensions to the dimensions in the dataset.

    Warning:

If you are creating an output data source, you must map all the dimensions available in the dataset, even the dimensions that you don't use in your plans. Otherwise, you won't be able to send plans to Analytics using the data source.

    To map the dimensions:

    1. Search for and select an Analytics dimension.
    2. Search for and select a WorkGrid dimension that maps to the Analytics dimension.

      Tips:
      • Click Show All Results to view your search results in a new window. You can then refine the search further and select the dimension that you want to use.
      • If the relevant dimension is not listed, click New Dimension to add a new dimension.
    3. Click Insert Row to add a new row to the dimension table.
    4. Repeat steps a to c for each dimension that you want to map.
  8. [Optional] Customize the order of column dimension values applied when creating a plan from the data source. By default, dimension values are added to a plan in ascending order. You can customize the order for dimensions displayed as columns in the plan. Note that this only applies when creating a new plan. To do this:

    1. Select the dimension mapping whose order you want to customize.
    2. Click Edit Dimension Value Order. The Edit Value Order window displays the values the dimension contains in the dataset.
    3. Reorder the values by dragging and dropping the rows.

      Tip:

You can also click Show Actions and then click one of the following options:

      • Move Up
      • Move Down
      • Move to the Top
      • Move to the Bottom
    4. Click Save.
    5. Repeat steps a to d for each dimension mapping whose value order you want to customize.
  9. Click Next.
  10. Map the relevant WorkGrid measures to the measures in the dataset.

    Warning:

If you are creating an output data source, you must map all the measures available in the dataset, even the measures that you don't use in your plans. Otherwise, you won't be able to send plans to Analytics using the data source.

    To map the measures:

    1. Search for and select an Analytics measure.
    2. Search for and select a WorkGrid measure that maps to the Analytics measure.

      Tips:
      • Click Show All Results to view your search results in a new window. You can then refine the search further and select the dimension that you want to use.
      • If the relevant measure is not listed, click New Measure to add a new measure.
    3. In the Measure Type column, select the aggregation method, for example, "SUM". For more information, see Aggregate Function.
    4. Click Insert Row to add a new row to the measure table.
    5. Repeat steps a to c for each measure that you want to map.
  11. Click Save.

The data source is now saved and you can use it when creating plans.
