SECTIONSAdjusting Tasks When a Project's Start Date Changes
When you move a project's start date, you often want the rest of the project plan to move with it so that the work stays in the same sequence. The Adjust Tasks When Start Date Changes field on a project lets you do this automatically. This field is deselected by default, so existing projects are unaffected until you select it.
When the field is selected and you change the project's start date on the project record, all of the project's tasks are updated: each task's start date and end date move forward or backward by the same number of days as the project start date. The project's own end date also moves by the same number of days, unless you change the end date yourself in the same save, in which case your value is kept.
The tasks are updated in the background, so the new dates appear shortly after you save the project. When the update finishes, you receive a notification that confirms one of the following outcomes:
- All project task dates were updated successfully.
- Some project task dates could not be updated. The dates that did update are saved, and the dates that could not be updated are recorded in the App Log.
- No project task dates could be updated. The reason for each failure is recorded in the App Log.
This field applies the adjustment when you change the start date on the project record or through the API. When you change a project's start date in Gantt, the adjustment is controlled by the Gantt preference of the same name instead, so your tasks are not moved twice.
