Managing Pricing Variables

Note:

Pricing variables calculate the bill amount for a custom pricing method at the role request level, consistent with the built-in Cost Plus and Time and Materials pricing methods.

Formula Syntax

To reference another pricing variable in a formula, use the syntax $VariableName$, where VariableName is the name of the sibling variable. Formulas can be up to 3,900 characters long.

Variable names cannot contain the $ character, and names must be unique in a pricing method. Additionally, a pricing variable cannot reference itself in its own formula.

Note:

Formulas follow standard Salesforce syntax, excluding the specific variable reference format defined above.

Formulas can also reference Salesforce formula fields. The pricing engine resolves the underlying field dependencies of formula fields automatically at evaluation time.

Creating Estimate Pricing Variables

To create an estimate pricing variable:

  1. Do one of the following:

    • From the App Launcher, go to the Estimate Pricing Variables tab, then click New.
    • On an estimate pricing method record, in the Pricing Variables related list, click New.
  2. If you didn't open the window from an estimate pricing method record, select an estimate pricing method to associate the pricing variable with.
  3. Enter a name for the pricing variable.
  4. [Optional] In the Output To field, select an output field for the pricing variable.
  5. Select a data type for the pricing variable.
  6. Enter a formula to calculate the pricing variable.
  7. [Optional] Enter a description.
  8. Click Create.

Editing Estimate Pricing Variables

To edit an estimate pricing variable:

  1. Do one of the following:

    • From the App Launcher, go to the Estimate Pricing Variables tab, then open the pricing variable you want to edit.
    • On an estimate pricing method record, in the Pricing Variables related list, click the pricing variable you want to edit.
  2. Click Edit.
  3. Update the relevant fields.
  4. Click Save.
Note:

If a pricing variable is referenced by another variable's formula, its Name and Data Type fields cannot be edited.

Editing Pricing Fields

To edit the pricing fields for an estimate product:

  1. Go to the required estimate.
  2. On the Pricing tab, find the estimate product you want to edit the pricing fields on.
  3. In the row-level actions, click Edit Pricing Fields.
  4. Edit the relevant fields.
  5. Click Apply.
  6. Click Save.
