Timeline View Overview

The Timeline view is one of the views available in the Estimate Builder, alongside the Work Breakdown and Hours Breakdown views. It displays the records on your estimate as horizontal bars on a time axis. This enables you to see when each estimate product, line set, task, and role request is scheduled to start and end. You can adjust the schedule directly in this view by dragging the bars, and your changes are kept in sync with the other views. To open the Timeline view, select it from the view list in the Estimate Builder toolbar.

The Timeline bars behave as follows:

  • A parent record displays a summary bar that spans the full date range of its child records, regardless of the parent's own dates.
  • You can expand and collapse rows in the tree to show or hide their child records. The summary bar for a parent record remains visible when the row is collapsed.
  • Hovering over a bar displays a tooltip with the record's name, start and end dates, and hours.
  • Estimate phase rows are not shown in the Timeline view. To view and manage phases, use the Hours Breakdown view.
Note:

By default, you can adjust estimate schedules in the Timeline view. An administrator can make the Timeline view read-only for the org. To do this, select the Disable Timeline View Editing field in the Services Estimator Settings custom setting. For more information, see Services Estimator Settings.
