Milestone Task Hierarchy Overview
When you create a project from an estimate, you can automatically build a milestone task hierarchy on the project's schedule. This means the structure displays correctly in the project's Gantt chart without you having to create and reorganize tasks manually afterward.
To build the hierarchy, select the Create Milestone Tasks checkbox on the estimate before creating the project. A milestone task is created for each deliverable milestone that's created for the project, taking its name from that milestone. The project's top-level tasks are then placed under the milestone task for their milestone, so each task hierarchy sits under the milestone it belongs to.
Each of the estimate's deliverable milestones gets its own milestone task, whether the milestone is created from a single line set, shared by the line sets in a billing group, or split into several milestones by a billing frequency. Milestones created from estimate vendor line items aren't included.
The Create Milestone Tasks checkbox is deselected by default, so existing behavior is unaffected unless you opt in. After a project is created, the checkbox can't be changed. For more information about creating a project, see Creating a Project from an Estimate.
