Scheduling the Process to Automatically Delete Obsolete Forecasts

An obsolete project forecast is a forecast whose project is no longer included in the Services Forecast Live dataset. A project is excluded from the dataset when it is set to inactive, or when the Include in Forecasting checkbox is deselected. You can set up a scheduled process to delete obsolete project forecasts automatically each month, so that your forecasts remain accurate and the obsolete ones are not sent to Analytics.

This process deletes only the forecasts whose project no longer exists in the Services Forecast Live dataset. If the dataset contains no projects, no forecasts are deleted, which prevents your forecasts from being removed when project data is temporarily unavailable. Deleting a parent forecast does not delete its child forecasts; the child forecasts remain but are no longer linked to the deleted parent.

Note:

A forecast is detected as obsolete only when its project still exists in your org but has been excluded from forecasting, either because the project is inactive or because the Include in Forecasting checkbox is deselected. If a project is deleted manually from your org, its forecast is not detected as obsolete, and you must delete it manually.

You can activate the automatic deletion from the Services Forecasting section of the Planning Task Launcher. The first time you activate it, the process deletes the forecasts that are currently obsolete and schedules the deletion to run automatically every month from that day onwards.

To activate the automatic deletion of obsolete project forecasts:

  1. On the Planning Task Launcher page, in the Services Forecasting section, click Delete Obsolete Project Forecasts. The Delete Obsolete Project Forecast window opens.
  2. Click Delete.
Note:

To turn off the automatic deletion, deactivate the Delete Obsolete Project Forecasts process on the Scheduled Processes tab.

After obsolete project forecasts are deleted from the Services Forecast Live dataset, you can also remove the corresponding forecasts from the Services Forecast Plans dataset. For more information, see Deleting Forecasts from the Services Forecast Plans Dataset.
