Editing Scheduled Hours

You can use Rapid Edit to:

When you edit scheduled hours in Resource and Project Planners, using either Rapid Edit or the Edit Assignments panel, a schedule exception is created on the schedule record for each impacted week.

Adjusting Hours in the Timeline Panel (Rapid Edit)

To edit assignment hours per cell:

  1. Select Day, Week, Month, or Quarter in the Zoom picklist.
  2. Double-click a cell in the Timeline to edit. Edited assignment hours are based on the zoom level. For example, if you are in a week zoom level, the hours you edit are applied to the week.
  3. Press Enter to continue or use either the Tab key or right arrow key to move to the right in the row. Use the Shift + Tab keys or the left arrow key to move to the left in the row. You can change edit mode at any time between the Total hours constant and End date held constant modes. These correspond to the Hold total assignment hours constant setting in the Planners - Project and Planners - Resource custom settings.
  4. Save your changes.
Note:

You cannot navigate vertically using Tab or the arrow keys in the Timeline.

Any schedule exceptions in the zoom level view of assignment hours are overwritten by changes you make when editing in the Timeline.

All schedule exceptions for holidays are designated on the day level, not the hour level in Resource and Project Planners. Any day in a work calendar with more than zero hours counts as a working day in planners and is allocated hours when making changes to the timeline.

Stretching Assignment Schedules in the Timeline Panel

You can drag the assignment bar horizontally to make changes to the entire assignment schedule.

To drag the assignment bar:

  1. Click the selected assignment bar on its left or right edge.
  2. Move the cursor left or right to decrease or increase the entire assignment schedule.
  3. Release the mouse to stop dragging.
  4. Click Save.

Adjusting individual daily hours in the Edit Assignments Panel

  1. Double click a resourceClosed A contact that works on a project., projectClosed A collection of activities and related items to be managed over a defined time range, such as timecards, expenses, milestones and budgets., sub-project, assignment or held resource request to show the edit assignments panel. If you double click a resource or project, you can see scheduled hours for all of its assignments and held resource requests.
    Note:

    The edit assignments panel displays scheduled hours over a two-week period, from Sunday to Saturday. Your Salesforce settings for locale determine the date format.

  2. Locate the day you want to adjust daily hours for on the date grid:
    • Choose the day from the Two-Week Period calendar.
    • Click or to display the previous or next two-week period.



  3. On the date grid, click the day you want to adjust daily hours for.
  4. Enter some new daily hours.
    • The daily and weekly totals update.
    • The value of After Adjusting updates.
    • The hours on the assignment bar and resource or project summary bar update.
    Tip:

    You can press TAB or SHIFT+TAB to skip to the next or previous day on the date grid.

  5. [Optional] Hide the edit assignments panel.
  6. If you are happy with the adjusted hours and, on the Resource Planner, the resultant effect on resource allocation, click Save.
    Note:

    Depending on the configuration that your administrator has chosen, holiday schedule exception records are created when you adjust and save assignment dates on the timeline. For more information, see Resource and Project Planners Settings and Preferences.

    Adjusting individual daily hours does not change the standard schedule patternClosed The number of hours usually worked per day on an assignment. of the assignment: you can only do this on the Edit Assignment Schedule page. See Editing and Rescheduling Assignment Schedules.

Applying an exception to the schedule pattern in the Edit Assignments panel

  1. Double click a resource, project, sub-project, assignment or held resource request to show the edit assignments panel.
  2. Select a row and review the standard schedule pattern in the Schedule Pattern section.


  3. Enter some new scheduled hours per day.
  4. Optionally, you may want to apply the exception between two dates that lie within the assignment's date range. Let's say, for example, that you'll be seconded to another project for a week and will now only work four instead of eight hours per day on this assignment. In this case, select a new start or end date: choose dates from the Apply Pattern Between calendars.

    If you do not specify an end date in the date range, the end date defaults to the start date.

  5. Click Apply Schedule Pattern.
  6. Click Save to apply any changes to the corresponding records in your organizationClosed A deployment of the Salesforce/FinancialForce applications with a defined set of licensed users. Your organization (org) includes all of your data and applications, and is separate from all other orgs.. Schedule exceptions are created on the schedule record.
