User Management Templates and Personas
User management templates and personas help you to group and organize common role details that you can apply when creating a new user, such as:
- Permission sets
- Permission set groups
- License details
A persona is a specific type of user management template that is created from the Persona Workbench tab. Personas are the only type of template available to select when creating a new user from the Create Users tab. One or more personas can be selected when creating a user record from the new Create User tab, if required.
User management templates and personas are stored as records in Salesforce custom metadata types.

The following custom metadata types are supplied with the User Management app and store details of the user management template and persona contents:
- User Management Template
- User Management Template Data
- FDN Plugin
Plugins are provided to apply the following types of information:
- Licenses
- Permission sets and permission set groups
- Accounting companies (Accounting users only)
You can also create your own custom plugins. For more information, see Creating Custom Plugins for User Management Templates.
Example
In your organization you have a Billing Clerk and a Billing Supervisor. To manage their permission sets using the User Management app, create a user information record for each of them and assign user management templates to the records. If you have a large number of permission sets, you could create permission set groups rather than permission sets and assign them to your user management templates.
