Enabling Security in Utilization Analytics

Security for the utilization results dataset ensures that only the authorized users can access any individual resource's utilization data. The security restricts the resource to view their own utilization information or allow their managers to view their direct report’s utilization. Selected users can also be provided unrestricted access to all the utilization data by creating or updating the permission control record for the users and checking the View All Utilization field. For more information, see About Permissions Control.

The security for the dataset is implemented using the security predicates. For more information, see Using Security Predicates on Utilization Results Datasets.

To enable security, you need to perform the following:

  • Ensure the View All Utilization field is available in the PSA Permission Control layout. Contact your administrator, if the field is not available in the layout.
  • Ensure the following fields are available in the PS Cloud Analytics Setup record page layout. Contact your administrator, if the fields are not available in the layout.
    • Utilization Results Security Mode
    • Utilization Results Hierarchy Mode
    • Utilization Results Permission Controls
  • Add Read and Edit access for the View All Utilization field on the Permission Control object of the PSA Manage Configuration permission set.
  • Provide the following access on the PS Cloud Analytics Integration User Read Access permission set:
    • Add Read access for the View All Utilization field on the Permission Control object.
    • Add Read access to the PS Cloud Analytics Setup object.
    • Add Read access for the Active field on the Utilization Setup object.
  • Add Read and Edit access for the following fields on the Utilization Setup object:
    • Utilization Results Security Mode
    • Utilization Results Hierarchy Mode
    • Utilization Results Permission Controls
  • Update your PS Cloud Core Analytics app.

Using Security Predicates on Utilization Results Datasets

You can use security predicates to control access to dataset rows among individuals or groups of users. There are various security predicates introduced for the Utilization Results Dataset. For more information about security predicates, see the Salesforce Help.

When upgrading to the latest version of PS Cloud Analytics, you can configure security predicates by accessing the PS Cloud Analytics Setup record. For more information, see Creating an App from the PS Cloud Core Analytics Template.

After you are done with the configuration, you can either:

  • Delete your app and recreate it. This automatically updates the security predicate for the Utilization Results dataset.

Or

Manually Setting the Security Predicate on the Utilization Results Dataset

You can manually set the security predicates on the Utilization Results dataset. To perform this:

  1. Navigate to Analytics Studio | Data Manager | Data Assets and select the Utilization Results dataset.
  2. Select Edit from the drop-down list.
  3. Enter the value for the security predicate. For more information, Security Predicate Value Examples.
Note: If your changes are not reflecting, synchronize the data by navigate to Analytics Studio | Data Manager | Connections, and synchronizing the required object.

Removing the Security Predicates

To remove the security predicate, perform the following:

  1. Navigate to Analytics Studio | Datasets.
  2. Select the Utilization Results dataset, and select Edit from the drop-down list.
  3. Delete the value displayed in the Security Predicate field.
