Using Services Credits Business Units when Allocating and Adjusting Credits
When allocating or adjusting credits for a milestone with an associated business unit, the following rules apply.
Allocating and Adjusting Services Credits with Automatic Selection of Credits
The automatic allocation and adjustment processes respect business unit restrictions. They only consume credits from services credits customer purchases that have either a business unit that matches the one for the milestone, or no business unit assigned.
When you perform an adjustment that reduces the number of allocated credits, the unallocated credits are automatically returned to their source purchase records. This occurs even if the purchase's expiry date is in the past. For more information about the credit expiry process and credits returned to purchases with an expiry date in the past, see Expiring Services Credits.
Allocating and Adjusting Services Credits with Manual Selection of Credits
When manually allocating or adjusting credits, the Manage Services Credits window also respects the restrictions of the business units. The window includes information about the business unit that applies to the milestone, and the business unit assigned to each purchase record. It also displays purchase records based on the action performed.
Allocating Credits
When assigning credits to a milestone for the first time, the Manage Services Credits window only displays eligible purchase records. That is, purchases that have either a business unit that matches the one for the milestone, or no business unit assigned.
Adjusting Credits
When adjusting credits, the Manage Services Credits window displays the purchase records the currently allocated credits have been drawn from.
This includes purchase records where credits were previously allocated, but the business unit no longer matches the one for the milestone. This might occur if you associate the milestone with a different business unit after performing a first credit allocation. In this scenario, you cannot increase the number of allocated credits because of the business unit mismatch. However, you can return the allocated credits to their source purchase records.
For more information about the specific steps to allocate and adjust services credits, see Managing Services Credits.
