PSA Project Forecast Dashboard

The PSA Project Forecast dashboard enables project managers to monitor how project revenue, cost, and margin is predicted to perform against budget. You can:

  • View forecasted versus budgeted revenue, cost, and margin at project level.
  • View a breakdown of forecasted revenue, cost, and margin by individual project item, such as a milestone, expense, or miscellaneous adjustment.
  • View a breakdown of forecasted revenue, cost, or margin by individual project item for the current quarter, next quarter, and future project periods.

The dashboard is available only in the PS Cloud Core Analytics app and displays data from the Services Forecast Reporting dataset. For more information about the fields used in the PSA Project Forecast dashboard, see Services Forecast Reporting Dataset PS Cloud Analytics Output Fields.

You can configure the dashboard to choose whether to use budget data or target data as the source data for the dashboard's target values. For more information, see Using the PSA Project Forecast Dashboard Configuration Page.

You can view the dashboard directly from the Project Forecast tab of a project's record page. For instructions on how to do this, see Embedding the PSA Project Forecast Dashboard.

PSA Project Forecast Dashboard Guide

The PSA Project Forecast has the following elements.

PSA Services Forecast Dashboard Elements
Element Number Name Description Calculation
1. Currency Picker Determines whether dashboard values are displayed in project or corporate currency. Not applicable
2. Estimated Revenue at Completion Summary Card Displays the total forecasted amount of revenue at completion of the project, the budgeted amount of revenue for the project, and the difference between the two amounts. Differences are displayed in green if the forecasted amount is greater than the budgeted amount, and in red if the budgeted amount is greater than the forecasted amount.

Estimated Revenue at Completion = Estimate to Complete + Total Actuals

Note:

Values used in the calculation are derived from the Forecast Revenue Analysis table.

Targeted Revenue = sum(Amount (Corporate Currency)) or sum (Amount (Record Currency)) when:

  • Version = "Working"
  • Source = "Budget"
  • Level 4 = "Customer Purchase Order", "Customer Purchase Order Change Request", "Vendor Purchase Order", or "Vendor Purchase Order Change Request"
3. Estimated Cost at Completion Summary Card Displays the total forecasted cost at completion of the project, the budgeted cost for the project, and the difference between the two amounts. Differences are displayed in red if the forecasted amount is greater than the budgeted amount, and in green if the budgeted amount is greater than the forecasted amount.

Estimated Cost at Completion = Estimate to Complete + Total Actuals

Note:

Values used in the calculation are derived from the Forecast Cost Analysis table.

Targeted Cost = sum(Amount (Corporate Currency)) or sum (Amount (Record Currency)) when:

  • Version = "Working"
  • Source = "Budget"
  • Level 4 = "Internal Budget" or "Internal Budget Change Request"
4. Estimated Margin at Completion Summary Card

Displays:

  • Forecasted margin at completion as a percentage of project revenue
  • Budgeted margin for the project as a value
  • The difference between the forecasted margin at completion value and budgeted margin value for the project

Differences are displayed in green if the forecasted amount is greater than the budgeted amount, and in red if the budgeted amount is greater than the forecasted amount.

You can hover over the forecasted margin value to view the following:

  • Estimated Margin at Completion displayed as a value.
  • Targeted Margin %.
  • Variance %, which is the difference between the estimated margin at completion and targeted margin values, expressed as a percentage.
Estimated Margin at Completion % = ((Estimated Revenue at Completion - Estimated Cost at Completion) / Estimated Revenue at Completion) * 100
Targeted Margin = Targeted Revenue - Targeted Cost

Estimated Margin at Completion = Estimated Revenue at Completion - Estimated Cost at Completion

Targeted Margin % = ((Targeted Revenue - Targeted Cost) / Targeted Revenue) * 100
Variance % = Estimated Margin at Completion % - Targeted Margin %
5. Forecast Revenue, Cost, or Margin Analysis Table

Displays estimated and actual values for the project as a total, and broken down by individual project item. Values in the Forecast Revenue Analysis and Forecast Cost Analysis tables are displayed as amounts. Values in the Forecast Margin Analysis table are displayed as percentages.

The table has the following columns:

  • Item: Displays the name of the item.
  • Estimate to Complete: The estimated amount of revenue accrued, or cost required to complete the remainder of the project or project item. For margin, this is the forecasted margin for the remainder of the project expressed as a percentage of the forecasted revenue for the remainder of the project.
  • Total Actuals: The total amount of actual revenue accumulated, or cost consumed to date by the project or project item. For margin, this is the total actual margin to date expressed as a percentage of the total actual revenue to date.
  • Estimate at Completion: The total amount of revenue or cost at completion of the project or project item based on the values in the Estimate to Complete and Total Actuals columns. For margin, this is the total estimated margin at completion of the project expressed as a percentage of the total estimated revenue at completion of the project.

Estimate to Complete = sum(Amount (Corporate Currency)) or sum (Amount (Record Currency)) when:

  • Version = "Working"
  • Plan Scenario Name = "Initial"
  • Actuals/Forecast = "Forecast"
  • Month Time Period End Date >= today's date

Total Actuals = sum(Amount (Corporate Currency)) or sum (Amount (Record Currency)) when:

  • Version = "Working"
  • Plan Scenario Name = "Initial"
  • Actuals/Forecast = "Actuals".

For forecasted revenue analysis, Revenue/Cost = "Revenue".

For forecasted cost analysis, Revenue/Cost = Cost.

Forecasted margin analysis = Total Actuals from the Forecasted Revenue Analysis table + Total Actuals from the Forecasted Cost Analysis table.

Estimate at Completion = Estimate to Complete + Total Actuals
Forecast Revenue, Cost, or Margin Breakdown Table

Displays forecasted revenue, cost, or margin as a total, and broken down by individual project item, for the current quarter, next quarter, and future project periods. The data in the table is broken down by month and quarter.

Values in the Past Actuals Total column, and any past month values in the current quarter, display an actual value.

Any future months in the current quarter display a forecast value.

Past Actuals Total = The sum of all actuals values for all periods before the current quarter.
Current month actuals total = The sum of all values for the current month, where Actuals/Forecast = "Actuals".
Current month forecast total = The sum of all values for the current month, where Actuals/Forecast = "Forecast".
Future month forecast total = The sun of all values for the future month in the current quarter, where Actuals/Forecast = "Forecast".

Current Quarter Total = The sum of all actual or forecast values for the current quarter when:

  • Version = "Working"
  • Plan Scenario Name = "Initial"
Next Quarter Total = The sum of all forecast values for the next quarter.
Future Forecast Total = Total revenue, cost, or margin for all project periods after the end of the next quarter.
