Estimate Rate Modifiers Overview
Estimate Rate Modifiers enable you to apply a percentage-based adjustment to the bill or cost rates on an estimate. You can use them to account for inflation, cost-of-living adjustments, regional pricing differences, or client-specific arrangements without manually overriding individual rates or creating additional rate cards.
Each rate modifier is owned by an estimate and cannot exist independently. When you delete an estimate, its rate modifiers are deleted with it.
You can manage rate modifiers from the Related subtab on the Estimate record page. For more information, see Adding Estimate Rate Modifiers.
Rate Type
Each rate modifier can be applied to bill rates. The cost rate option will be implemented in a future release.
Value (%)
Enter the adjustment as a percentage in the Value (%) field. Enter a positive number to increase rates, or a negative number to decrease them. For example, enter 10 for a 10% increase or -10 for a 10% reduction. A value of 0 is valid and has no effect on rates.
Date Range
You can optionally limit a rate modifier to a specific period using the Start Date and End Date fields. The modifier applies only to role requests whose dates fall within the specified range.
- If you leave Start Date blank, the modifier applies from the beginning of the estimate.
- If you leave End Date blank, the modifier applies to the end of the estimate.
- If you leave both fields blank, the modifier applies to all dates on the estimate.
Rate Modifier Filters
You can optionally filter which role requests a modifier applies to using the Role, Region, Practice, and Group fields.
- If you leave all filter fields blank, the modifier applies to all role requests on the estimate.
- If you set one or more filter, the modifier applies only to role requests that match all of the specified values.
- If you select the Apply to Sub-Regions, Practices & Groups checkbox, the modifier applies to role requests that match the sub-regions, practices, and groups of the specified region, practice, and group it is scoped to.
Validation Rules
When you save an Estimate Rate Modifier record, Services Estimator validates the following:
- Value (%) must be greater than or equal to −100.
- If both Start Date and End Date are set, the start date must be on or before the end date.
Cloning Estimates
When you clone an estimate, all rate modifiers are included in the cloned estimate. All fields are preserved, including rate type, value, date range, and any role, region, practice, or group filters. The cloned rate modifiers are not validated against the new estimate's dates or role requests. For more information about cloning estimates, see Cloning an Estimate.
Moving Estimate Dates
When you use Move Dates on an estimate, the start and end dates of any rate modifiers shift by the same number of days as the estimate. If a rate modifier has a blank start date or end date, those fields remain blank. For more information about moving estimate dates, see Changing Estimate Dates.
