Time Variance Calculations

In PSA, you can calculate time variance at the regionClosed, practiceClosed, and groupClosed level between a resource's work calendar hours and the logged hours by users. You can use these calculations to build reports tracking deviations between hours on a resource's work calendar and a resource's timecard hours.

Note:
You can recalculate or update the already calculated time variance for the same Region, Practice, Group, or week. The existing time variance detail record is deleted if the variance hours are zero and if not, it is updated with the latest variance hours and time variance calculation.

If you have the privileges to do so, you can define a threshold of time variance over or under scheduled resource hours based on the work calendar.

You can then calculate the time variance using either:

  • the number of hours over or under hours worked compared against the hours in the work calendar, or:
  • a percentage of hours worked over or under the hours in the work calendar.
Note:

Time variance creates records for all resources associated with the given region, practice, or group unless the Resource (Contact) is excluded by checking the "Exclude from Time Variance Calculations" field.

If a timecard does not have a status defined in the time-variance-timecard-status Timecard configuration option, or a resource does not have a timecard, the time variance calculation uses a zero-hour record to represent hours worked to compare against hours scheduled in the work calendar.
