Creating a Messaging Relationship

To create a messaging relationship for a specific message type:

  1. On the Message Types tab, click the name of the message type that you want to define a relationship for.
  2. In the Relationship & Mapping Details section, click Manage Relationship.
  3. If you have already created publications and subscriptions for this message type, complete the following steps:
    1. Select the relevant publication and subscription from the drop-down lists.
    2. [Optional] Check or update the publication and subscription details.
      Tip:

If you change the source or target object, you can revert the change, if required. You can select the last saved source or target object on the relationship to restore any previously saved mappings.

  4. If you want to create a new publication:
    1. Select "New Publication" from the drop-down list.
    2. Select a publishing product.
    3. Search for and select the source object that you want to publish information from.
    4. Select the field that contains the source record's unique identifier. By default, the record ID is the unique identifier on the source.

New publications are enabled by default.

  5. If you want to create a new subscription:
    1. Select "New Subscription" from the drop-down list.
    2. Select a subscribing product.
    3. Select the subscription type:
      • Standard for subscriptions that use a single field to identify a target record.
      • Multiple Identifier References on Target for subscriptions that use many fields to identify a target record.
      Note:

You cannot change the subscription type after the relationship has been saved.

    4. Search for and select the target object to which you want to send the data.
    5. Complete one of the following based on the subscription type:
      • For standard subscriptions, select the field in which to store the unique identifier. This is referenced to correlate and update records. Ensure that you specify a field that is not updated manually.
      • For the Multiple Identifier References on Target subscription type, all mappings at the parent level are compared to identify a matching target record.

New subscriptions are enabled by default.

  6. Click Save.

You are now ready to add mappings to the messaging relationship. For more information, see Adding Mappings to a Messaging Relationship.

Note:

You cannot update the source and target objects on the relationship while the relationship is activated. To update the source and target objects, remove the activation method, make the required changes and reactivate the relationship.
