Adding a Task Dependency Relationship

You can create a task dependency relationship A relationship between two tasks. If a task is completed early or late, this has an effect on the start and end date of the task that succeeds it. between tasks using the Schedule pane or the Task Editor popup.

To create a task dependency relationship between two tasks using the Schedule pane:

1. Hover over the task that you want to create a relationship with.
2. Depending on the type of relationship that you want, drag the circular icon at the start or end of the task block to the circular icon at the start or end of the task that you are creating the relationship with.
   Tip:

   The tick icon is shown when hovering over the circular icon of a task that you can create a dependency relationship with. The icon is shown where a dependency relationship cannot be created, such as between a parent task and a sub-task.

3. Review and adjust the start and end dates of the tasks in light of the dependency.
4. Click Save.

To create a task dependency relationship between two tasks using the Task Editor popup:

1. Double-click the task that you want to relate with a previous task in the Schedule pane.
2. Click the Predecessors tab.
3. Click Add New.
4. Select the name of the task on which the selected task is to depend.
5. Select the type of dependency that you want for the relationship. See Task Dependency Relationship Types.
6. [Optional] Enter a lag This term is either a delay or an overlap between tasks in a dependency relationship. According to the dependency type, lag is added (or subtracted when a negative value) to the start or end time of the successor task. time.
7. To add more dependency relationships, repeat the steps.
8. Click Apply.
9. To save the changes, click Save.

Note:

When you create a task dependency relationship in Project Task Gantt, the default lag This term is either a delay or an overlap between tasks in a dependency relationship. According to the dependency type, lag is added (or subtracted when a negative value) to the start or end time of the successor task. time of 0 is applied. When you change the dates of a dependent task, for example by dragging the task bar on the Schedule pane, the preceding task's dates are not updated in accordance with dependency rules.

To re-apply dependency rules:

• Right-click a task and select Apply Dependency Rules.
• Click Resolve Dependencies .

When you save changes dependency rules are not re-applied.

You cannot create a dependency relationship between a parent task and any other task.
