Updating a Budget's Amount Released for Invoicing
When you release a single billing event, a message might be displayed asking you to click Recalculate so that PSA can update the value in a budget's Amount Released for Invoicing field. This happens if billing event items are linked to a budget that is capped for billing, but the budget's Amount Released for Invoicing field is blank. Typically this is because the budget was created before the Amount Released for Invoicing field was added to the Budget object (in PSA Winter 2025). Once you click Recalculate, PSA resumes the process to release the billing event.
If the same situation arises when you release billing events in bulk, PSA calculates the budget's Amount Released for Invoicing value automatically. If the value cannot be calculated because of platform limits, an error is logged explaining that the amount released could not be calculated. When this happens, use the error to identify which billing event could not be released, then try the following options:
- Release the single billing event and click Recalculate as explained earlier.
- If you are unable to release the single billing event, manually populate the budget's Amount Released for Invoicing field.
- If you are unable to manually populate the budget's Amount Released for Invoicing field, deselect the budget's Apply Billing Cap checkbox. This means that the budget is no longer capped for billing, and you will need to credit any overage manually.
