About Forecasting

This page explains about the various forecasting solutions in PSA:

  • Revenue Forecasting is the existing solution that is currently available.
  • Cost Forecasting is currently available for use in a limited capacity but is not supported by any existing user interfaces. You can, however, use cost forecast and cost forecast type records in your own custom reports, if required.
  • Services Forecasting combines revenue and cost forecasts, enabling you to achieve an accurate margin analysis. It is currently Beta functionality. Further development is required to deliver a fully functional solution.
  • Billing Forecasting is to be superseded by Revenue Forecasting. We recommend that you choose Revenue Forecasting as your forecasting solution.

Revenue Forecasting

Revenue Forecasting enables you to automatically generate accurate revenue forecasts for projects, opportunities, and accounts in your services organization using the current data and taking into account the selected recognition method, such as Deliverable, Equal Split, or % Complete.

You can schedule PSA to automatically take regular snapshots of this data (known as "revenue forecast versions"), removing the need to maintain data on spreadsheets.

Note:

Account revenue forecasts are not included in revenue forecast versions.

Using your insight into the business and detailed up-to-date knowledge, you can make management adjustments to the data in these snapshots to ensure they reflect any risk or upside.

For information on how to set up Revenue Forecasting, see Setting up Forecasting.

Cost Forecasting

Cost Forecasting is used in conjunction with Revenue Forecasting to achieve an accurate profitability analysis, helping you to make more informed decisions about your business.

For more information, see Cost Forecasting Overview.

Note:

Cost Forecasting is currently available for use in a limited capacity but is not supported by any existing user interfaces. You can, however, use cost forecast and cost forecast type records in your own custom reports, if required.

(Beta) Services Forecasting

Services Forecasting combines revenue and cost forecasts, enabling you to achieve an accurate margin analysis, and helping you to make more informed decisions about your business.

For speed of retrieval, forecasts are stored in Analytics. You can edit your forecasts in WorkGrid and send snapshots of your edited forecasts to Analytics for comparison with your live forecasts.

For more information, see (Beta) PSA Services Forecasting Overview.

Warning:

Services Forecasting is Beta functionality in this release. Further development is required to deliver a fully functional solution. Contact Certinia Support.

Revenue Forecasting is unaffected and continues to work in the same way as before.

Billing Forecasting

Notes:

Billing Forecasting is to be superseded by Revenue Forecasting at some point after the PSA Fall 2020 release. If you are already using Billing Forecasting, Certinia will provide you with a migration path to enable you to move to Revenue Forecasting. If you are not already using Billing Forecasting, we recommend that you choose Revenue Forecasting as your forecasting solution.
Billing Forecasting was previously called Enhanced Services Forecasting. It has been renamed to better reflect the functionality.

Billing Forecasting enables you to automatically generate billing forecasts for a given time period at the regions, practices, and groups (RPG) level for projects and opportunities.

The forecast identifies the types of records that have already been billed, such as timecards and expenses, and the types of records that are scheduled to be billed, such as assignments. The forecast can be configured to include unscheduled project backlog and opportunities.

You can view the data and adjust it using overrides via the Billing Forecast page.
