Starting with Gantt

Notes:
  • The main procedure is for users of record pages supplied by Certinia from Fall 2020.
  • From Fall 2020, if you are not using the pages supplied by Certinia, your administrator can add the PSA Actions: Project Planning Tools component to the project record page.
  • We recommend that you use Gantt on Google Chrome.

To open Gantt:

  1. Open an existing project.
  2. Click Actions | Project Planning Tools | Open Gantt. Gantt opens, and your project details are displayed in a task grid and Gantt chart.
Tip:

You can view project tasks in Gantt format from a project record without opening Gantt. For more information, see Viewing Gantt from a Project Record.

The task grid in the left-hand pane is an interactive, detailed list view of your project tasks. Related task information is displayed, such as start and end dates, duration, estimated hours, and resources assigned to tasks. A work breakdown structure (WBS) is generated from any existing hierarchy, and updated for any changes.

Any changes that you make to columns in the task grid are restored each time you open Gantt on the same computer, using the same browser. This includes ordering, size, and the columns that you have selected to be displayed or hidden, including custom columns.

Note: If you are loading tasks in from another system or using the Add Tasks from Template action on a project record to add tasks from multiple templates, tasks are loaded into the task grid in their hierarchical order using the Peer Order and Hierarchy Depth fields on the project task record. If the Peer Order field is not populated on any of the project task records, records with a peer order value are loaded first and those without are then loaded by start date and time. You will then need to click Save.

The Gantt chart is an interactive, graphical representation of your projects and project tasks.

The Gantt scheduler shows the resources assigned to the current project and displays the relevant resource requests and assignments on all projects on a timeline. To show and hide the scheduler, click Gantt Scheduler in the toolbar.

General Notes

After changing any details in Gantt, click Save.

If another user has the same project open in Gantt when you click Save, a message is displayed asking if you want to break the lock and continue to save. If you break the lock, the user will be locked out of the project, will have to refresh, and could lose any unsaved changes.

Use the zoom picklist to change the zoom level of the Gantt chart between intervals of hours to years Zoom levels picklist. If you select Hours, you have the option to add another time zone to the Gantt chart.

Click Go Backward on Timeline or Go Forward on Timeline to move backward or forward on the Gantt timeline, perhaps to view a task that falls outside the project date range.

For some actions, you can right-click the project or a task, and then select the action from the menu. If you select multiple tasks, the items in the menu change to be relevant to the selection.
