Using Milestones in Gantt

To display a milestone in Gantt, you need to create a milestone and synchronize it with a project task. When synchronized, the milestone's target date and the task's end date are linked. Changes to one of these values is reflected in the other value.

To use milestones in Gantt:

  1. Click . You do not need to have a project task selected. The Project Milestones dialog opens and existing milestones are displayed.
    Note:

If Project Milestones is not visible or you cannot double-click on a milestone to update it, check with your administrator because they can deselect Show Project Milestones Button in the Gantt Global Settings custom setting to prevent users from creating or updating milestones. For more information, see Configuring Gantt Custom Settings.

  2. Add a milestone and enter its details.
  3. To create a project task for an existing or new milestone, click Create Task.
  4. Click Apply. A project task for the milestone is added below the selected task in the task grid.

If you have selected the project or a parent task in the task grid, the project task is added to the bottom of the relevant task list.

Desynchronizing Tasks

If you click in the Synchronized Task field, the task and milestone are desynchronized. This removes the link between the task's end date and the milestone's target date. Changes are no longer reflected between these values.

Changing Milestones Outside Gantt

When you change a milestone target date outside Gantt, the end date of the synchronized task is updated when the project is next loaded or reloaded in Gantt. Milestone dates might also be updated due to the work calendar.

Note: When you save the project in Gantt, the project is reloaded when the Gantt preference Reload on SaveThis is selected by default. When applied, Gantt reloads data automatically every time that you click Save. is selected.
