Project Edit Locking Overview
When your administrator has enabled project edit locking, only one user at a time can edit project tasks, and their assignments (PTAs) and dependencies. The lock does not apply to other project-related objects such as assignments, resource requests, or schedules.
The lock is only applied when project task objects are being edited in Project Task Gantt, plus Gantt or Salesforce. The lock is not active when only Gantt and Salesforce are being used.
Your administrator must have:
- Enabled the releaseLock page for your user profile. When this is enabled, the lock is released when you exit Project Task Gantt.
- Assigned the Project Task Gantt Edit permission control to you. For more info, see Project Task Gantt Permissions Overview and Assigning Gantt Permissions and Controlling Sharing Access.
Regardless of configuration, projects are unlocked after four minutes of inactivity.
If locking is enabled, a message informs you if another user is editing the same project tasks, assignments, or dependencies:
- In Project Task Gantt, the message is displayed when you select the project. You can break the lock if your administrator has enabled the Always Allow Breaking Locks custom setting.
- In Gantt or Salesforce, the message is displayed when you try to save your changes.
- In Gantt, you can always break the lock. If you break the lock, Project Task Gantt users are locked out of the application, will have to refresh, and could lose any unsaved changes.
- You cannot break the lock in Salesforce.
