Agent Steps Overview

Note:

This feature is part of the Certinia Early Adopter Program. This program is only available to a limited number of customers. For more information, contact your Certinia Account Team.

While an agent works on your request, agent chat displays each step that the agent takes. The step in progress displays a spinner and a short note that describes what the agent is doing, such as checking a resource's availability. Earlier steps display "Ran" followed by the name of the tool that the agent used, and keep the step's note. If the agent uses the same tool more than once, each use is listed as a separate step. If the agent works on your request without using any tools, a spinner is displayed instead.

Steps are displayed only for tools that read data. When the agent proposes a change that needs your approval, it displays an approval card instead. For more information, see Agent Cards Overview.

When the agent responds, the steps collapse into a summary above the response, such as "Ran 3 steps". You can expand and collapse the list of steps. If the agent displays an approval card, the steps that it took before the card collapse above the card, and the steps that it takes after your decision collapse above its next response. If an error occurs, the steps collapse above the error message. If you send a new message before the agent responds, any steps that have not collapsed into a summary are removed.

Steps are saved with the conversation, so they are still displayed if you refresh the page, and when you review a past conversation on the Veda page. In conversations prior to the introduction of agent steps, each step displays the name of the tool without a note.

Note:

Screen readers announce only the step in progress. The summary is a button that reports whether the list of steps is expanded.

Administrators can review the details of every tool that an agent runs, including the data passed to and returned by the tool. For more information, see Tool Execution Records Overview.
