Tracking Project Source

When you create a project from a template or opportunity, or you add any records from a template to the project separately, a project source record is created automatically. Project source records track the information to analyze performance, and the use of templates to create or modify projects.

Note:

You must be assigned the PSA - Manage Projects permission set to view the project source records related to a project. These records are read-only.

The project source record is created for each of the following actions:

  • Add records from template to the project
  • Add milestones from template to the project
  • Add resource requests from template to the project
  • Add assignments from template to the project
  • Add project tasks from template to the project
  • Create a new project from a template or opportunity

After the process is complete, the action that was performed is stored in the Action field, and the Status field displays a message related to the number of records copied successfully or partially. If the records are copied partially, you receive an email with the details. For more information, see Project Source Fields.

A source lookup in the record’s object is also created when a record, such as milestone, project task, assignment, phase, location, methodology, risk, or resource request is copied from the template to the new project. This field has the source record from which the record is copied in the project. For more information, see Project Location, Methodology and Phase Fields, Assignment Fields, Milestone Fields, and Resource Request Fields.

Note:

The source lookup fields are read-only. You can edit them if you have the PSA - Create Projects permission set assigned.
